Freedom + Mountain TOP trip

As I sit here on July 5th, it seems relevant to discuss freedom as we just celebrated Independence Day! Freedom is expensive - never forget that.

I enjoyed the evening with my family just watching fireworks in our backyard. But I don't enjoy my freedom only on July 4th, but each and every day. I'm grateful to those who fought for my freedom of speech, religion, women's rights, and so much more. I appreciate others who value the right to one's freedom of opinion, never to harm one another, in equality and pursuit of happiness.

But what I really want to discuss is the freedom YOU can create in YOUR life! This freedom doesn't come by "unfriending" everyone who disagrees with you. Or from causing disruption trying to show others "your truth"; I promise it can be done with integrity and endurance. Freedom in YOUR life comes from gratitude, being open to learning and understanding others, and choosing to look for the good in the world.

Each day I wake up is a gift. I have the freedom to choose how I enjoy each and every day. YOU have this choice as well. Start by looking for the good in yourself, then look for the good in others, and quit focusing on the negative or differences.

If you follow my social media, you know my son, Cade, and I just went South to Grundy County, Tennessee. We have been going since 2019 to serve through our church the local community down there. Every year is better than the year before. Once in "camp" Cade and I are separated into groups and only see each other at breakfast, dinner, and free time. (But let's be honest, free time happens after 9pm and I'm exhausted by then...hahaha) While down there, Cade and I are working through a local ministry called Mountain Top. This organization has arranged the partnership with the recipient family and all we have to do is WORK.

I discuss this as I mention freedom for a couple reasons.

1. Cade and I choose to go each year. We pay money to drive 7 hours South, stay in cabins for 7 days without AC, sharing with 8-16 other people, eating only what is served, and showering in a community area!

THE REWARD IS GREATER THAN THE SMALL SACRIFICES!

2. And we choose to learn about others in a different area. The people we serve in Grundy County, Tennessee are kind, caring, but the different lifestyles are significant. I'm not just talking about having money or not. I feel like life is slower in Cumberland Pines, people respect nature and God's resources more, and these people seek community and fellowship!! The families we served are not isolating themselves from others who are different but partnering with those who are open and willing to help one another!

If you are still reading this... find FREEDOM within YOUR life. I believe that gratitude, appreciation, and an open heart and mind will bring you freedom most days!

Check out the photos from my fireworks last night. If you want to see more about Tennessee, I shared details about the trip on my social media. You can check all that out at here. But I did include my favorite pic :) and if you click on it, you can learn more about Moutain TOP mission!!

Be Kind, Karinsa
