How WC and KT began...

Oh my - where to begin? I feel you need a little history to understand...

Not to tell you my whole life story, but we will begin with my previous employment, Randolph County Assessor's Office. I worked here from 2008-2020. I am good at customer service, love numbers and math; therefore, this office job seemed perfect for me. Let's also keep in mind, that at this time I am a mom of a 3-year-old, and this job only asked 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday 8am - 4pm. I truly enjoyed this position for many years.

In 2019 I became frustrated and restless and started looking for a change. I didn't take much action until the beginning of 2020. I updated my resume, submitted 3 different applications, and took 2 interviews. One business couldn't afford my value and the other position that got me excited ended up going a different route. (Both were blessings in disguise.)

So, let's jump to April of 2020 when a longtime acquaintance asked me to lunch to discuss an opportunity. I had no clue where this was going, but I took the meeting and met Paul F. He knew I had been seeking a change as I submitted my resume to his office. He was approached by a business owner looking to sell her business and he said, "I instantly thought of you and how this might be exactly what you are looking for." If you didn't guess, the business was Kerry S's Medicare book of business.

My first thought... NO WAY! I don't know insurance and I certainly don't know Medicare. Plus, I would need to leave a job with a set income, insurance, pension, etc. for something unknown.

After this meeting, I was still uncertain, but I had a feeling. I didn't just say NO WAY. I needed more information; I was intrigued and very curious. After a few more meetings and lots of data, numbers, and planning, I was ready to discuss the opportunity with my husband. He was even more weary and unsure than I was. He wanted me to stick it out at the Courthouse.

After more meetings with Paul, crunching numbers, talking to my parents for a different viewpoint, I came back to Chris with a clear plan of action, potential income, plus all the freedoms owning my business would provide our family.

FINALLY, he agreed but reluctantly. I turned in my 2 week notice at the Courthouse and my last day was August 7, 2020. I had already arranged to rent the office space Kerry previously occupied, so all weekend my dad and I set up my new office space. This was the last big project I completed with my dad's help; moving filing cabinets, hanging items on the wall, feeding him for payment! :)

At this point, I still had no clue how to provide quality Medicare solutions, price Supplements, etc. I knew I needed to obtain a state license which required 40 hours of online book work, pass a monitored exam, then get contracted with all the companies Kerry previously worked with so clients and commissions would transfer. This was a HUGE undertaking as the busiest time for a Medicare Specialist begins October 1 - Annual Enrollment Period.

I passed my state exam September 9, 2020, and then had to complete contracts with multiple companies. This paperwork was foreign. All the information I just learned and was tested on had nothing to do with contracts or how to help people with their best options.

After contracts were completed and approved, guess what - I had to complete online certifications with each company - all 8 of them. And still, no knowledge about comparing Medicare options or even what a typical client appointment would consists of.

By the end of September, I started getting phone calls for appointments for the Annual Enrollment Period. I had to figure it out and figure out fast. I know I made some mistakes, but each client was patient, understanding, and still grateful for my assistance.

I had to have faith in myself and my ability to obtain the knowledge needed, provide quality service to each client, and manage a new business.

Kerry's clients were willing to give me a chance to prove myself. My family trusted me to hold up the plan I presented and put in the work needed to make the plan succeed. My boys missed me as I worked long days at the office and continued to work once I got home, but this was an investment we were making for US (our family)!

The first year was a blur... lots of classes, tests, paperwork, and learning. But if we fast forward to today.... I still put in the hard work to learn all Medicare options, guidelines, and rules, how to best serve each of my clients, and continue to manage and grow a successful business.

Beginnings are hard. I didn't know what I was signing up for when I fought for this opportunity, but I'm beyond grateful my friend offered me the opportunity. It wasn't given to me. I had to think it through. I had to convince myself and my family. I had to make it work. And I have to continue to work, learn, and grow!

I've been blessed with a supportive network: family, friends, and loyal clients!

WC Insurance Solutions continues to thrive not only because of my hard work, but the faith others have in me. We are now licensed and contracted to help others in 3 states: Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan! We are here to help you, your family, and your friends with all Medicare options. We can offer assistance with Social Security, Medicaid, and other insurance options as well. But WC Insurance Solutions is proud to be YOUR MEDICARE SPEICIALIST!!

What I have learned from this - never say NO WAY to an opportunity without thinking it through. This opportunity has been the biggest blessing for me and my boys within the past 3 years. We are continuing to build and create our future, and the door is wide open We just have to be brave enough to take the next step!

Thank you Paul F. for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself.

Thank you to my parents for guidance but also the trust to figure it out for myself.

And thank you to my boys, Cade and Cole! They may not realize all they gave to me, but they continue to watch me work and build this business into something WE can all be proud to call OURS.
