I have other health coverage. Should I get Part B when I turn 65?

Updated: Oct 3, 2023

Hello again! I hear this question A LOT, so I thought I would explain it here.

If you have employer insurance or union coverage:

Medicare beneficiaries that are covered by you or your spouse's current employment and the employer has more than 20 employees - Typically, I would suggest delaying Part B unless premiums and coverage are drastically better.

If you have TRICARE:

You generally must sign up for Part A and Part B when you're first eligible to keep your TRICARE coverage.

If you have Medicaid:

You must enroll in Part B during your initial enrollment period.

If you have Marketplace coverage:

Generally, you should sign up for Part B when first eligible to avoid a delay or late enrollment penalty.

As you are reading, these situations are vague and not very detailed because each client is unique. I don't believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach to offering Medicare plans. I will provide individual solutions for each client and serve as your advocate should you need anything.
